Now they see us

The Argentine women's movement, Ni Una Menos and the fight for legal abortion became an inspiration and a reference for many women around the world who are fighting for their rights as well. However, in this country a woman is killed every 30 hours. It doesn't matter what your age or social class is, simply by being a woman, transgender or non-binary, you and your body are at risk. Since 2016 I have been portraying women’s demonstrations in different places in Argentina.

The women I have captured on camera are tired of being told what they can and cannot do. They are tired of living within the confines of a patriarchal society that denigrates them. They are tired of being told what it means to be a ‘good’ woman. They are tired of being harassed on the street and tired of being subjected to horrific levels of violence. These women take to the streets to say that they have had enough. We ask to be listened to and to be respected. Our lives, our desire and our decisions matter.

Finally on December 30, 2020, after fifteen years of struggle, the legalization of voluntary pregnancy disruption was approved by the nation's senate and became law. A great step for a more just society but not the last one.
